back to school dinner

With the new school year fast approaching and a daughter who, for the first time, was not excited to start school, I was, to say the least, nervous, sick and worried. Did I make the right decision? Is this really going to be good for my kids? Was it worth all this stress? Every day I had been trying to come up with ways to get her excited for this new year. Talks of all the new things she would learn, and friends she would make, new experiences she would have, weren't helping. So during church on Sunday, when I am sure I should have been listening to the lessons, I remembered reading last year on NieNie's blog about her back to school dinner she had for her girls. As soon as we got home I looked it up and got to work....

We had our informed each of our guests of honor about this special meal and when they arrived at the table we adorned each with a special crown...

Throughout the meal we talked about how important school is and how exciting it is to learn so many new things each day, and how excited we were for each of them...we also chose a family theme for the year (thanks to Nie for this idea as well) "Be Kind". Something we have been working on for a while, especially within our own home.

We ended the evening with our tradition of father's blessings followed by these super yummy homemade ice cream sandwiches.

Everyone was happy, tired...and I think Taryn may have been even a little excited...though she would never admit to it.

I saw this on NieNie' blog too...and was totally going to do it until, of course, I broke my foot right before!!

You did a great job and I love the family theme idea!
